Requirements for Part-Time Banquet Servers

At TRC Staffing of Columbia we take pride in providing well educated food service employees to the banquet and catering industry. That's why we require all employees (part-time or full-time job employees) to be knowledgeable of specific functions when working banquets, receptions, and cash food events.

  1. We prefer servers (and require captains) to report to work 15 minutes before scheduled duty and in proper uniform.

  2. It is customary to serve food from the left and remove from the right in an open, friendly manner.

  3. It is customary to serve beverages from the right.

  4. Serving wine: Never fill the glass. The half way mark is fine and you can pour as often as guests require. Hold the bottle by the base and give your wrist a slight twist as you finish pouring to avoid spills.

  5. The set up and tear down of the event should be done according to the captain or event director.

  6. Servers should know proper food temperatures of items for each event by reading the Banquet Event Order and/or consulting with the captain.
Workers in part-time banquet jobs are required by TRC Staffing of Columbia to have a pleasant personality and a neat and clean appearance. They should be sensitive to guests' needs. They must be able to organize, plan and work as part of a team. Good stamina is necessary since banquet servers are usually on their feet and required to work quickly as well as efficiently.

Knowledge of basic mathematics and comfort with computers is important. Those who serve alcohol must have good judgment and an ability to deal with difficult people. All TRC Staffing employees in part-time banquet jobs should be prepared to work irregular and sometimes late hours. An awareness of safety and emergency issues is important.

Most workers are in constant contact with customers, so they should be prepared to interact with various personalities, including those that are demanding or difficult. During busy periods they are under pressure to serve customers quickly and efficiently.

Questions regarding scheduling should be addressed to TRC Staffing managers as soon as possible.
